Tribal Comics Issue 5: Zafira the Demon, commonly shortened to Zafira the Demon, is a 2026 American dark-fantasy comic book created by Tony James Nelson II. It is the fifth issue of the Tribal Comics series and was published by Roovet Comics and distributed through Roovet Books on July 18, 2026.

The issue is based on Chapter 20 of Nelson's novel Tribal: Bloody Beginnings and continues the story three months after the fall of Gia. It follows Jabari and Rimitorry as they return to the conquered fortress to rescue Sakori, only to encounter Rimitorry's younger sister Zafira, Alpha's favored weapon and the warrior known as the Demon.

Background and publication

Zafira the Demon follows Assault on Gia: Sakori's Fury, which depicts the invasion and fall of Gia. The fifth issue advances the chronology by three months and shifts the central conflict from open warfare to a rescue mission, family confrontation, and test of strength.

The comic contains 25 total pages, consisting of the front cover and 24 interior pages. It was prepared for digital, comic-reader, paperback, and hardcover editions. Plot

Return to Gia

Three months after Gia falls, Jabari and Rimitorry travel across the ruined land toward the fortress. Both have changed during the intervening months. Jabari has gained greater control of the spells contained in the Tribal Bible, while his relationship with Rimitorry has developed into a committed romance.

The pair discover that Gia's flags have been removed and replaced by the black-and-red colors of Nebu. Intelligence gathered from traders and defectors indicates that Sakori remains alive in the fortress's lower levels. Jabari uses his ring and a new spell to locate him, revealing that Sakori is wounded, imprisoned, and repeatedly drawing the mark of his teacher, Zuberi.

Rescue of Sakori

Jabari and Rimitorry enter the lower levels of the fortress. Rimitorry silently defeats the guards at the entrance, while Jabari incapacitates additional guards with a sleeping spell. At Sakori's magically sealed cell, Jabari uses knowledge from the Tribal Bible to break the lock.

Rimitorry reunites with Sakori, who is physically and emotionally broken by his imprisonment. The group begins its escape, but an alarm sounds as they reach the third level. Instead of encountering reinforcements, they find the corridors unnaturally silent.

The Demon's message

Inside the main hall, the group discovers the weapons and armor of fallen Nebu warriors arranged with deliberate precision. The word "DEMON" has been written at the center of the display. Jabari counts 53 victims and realizes that the scene was designed as a message rather than the aftermath of an ordinary battle.

At the fortress gate, the group finds one surviving warrior. His condition forces Rimitorry to confront memories of the people she has killed and the violence that has followed her. Jabari persuades her to continue, and Sakori gently turns her away from the dying man.

At the exit, they find Zafira waiting for them. Jabari recognizes her as the dangerous young warrior he previously saw fighting beside Alpha and Deathwave. Zafira carries an ornate Nebu lance and admits that she killed the 53 warriors.

Family confrontation

Zafira confronts Rimitorry and Sakori over the years they spent away from her. She accuses Rimitorry of repeatedly leaving her behind and reminds Sakori that he never returned to Nebu after leaving the island with their mother.

The argument becomes more painful when Zafira admits that she witnessed their father stab Rimitorry in the throne room but was unable to intervene. Rimitorry reacts with anger, while Sakori reminds her that Zafira was a child surrounded by Alpha, their relatives, and other dangerous figures.

Zafira describes the massacre as a gift to Sakori and claims that she removed the warriors so her siblings would not have to fight while rescuing their injured brother. Her willingness to treat mass killing as an expression of love horrifies Rimitorry and Sakori.

Zafira then turns her attention toward Jabari. Her open interest in him provokes Rimitorry, leading to a confrontation between the sisters. Zafira challenges Rimitorry to prove that she has not become weak during her years away from Nebu.

Recovery and training

Zafira leads the group away from the fortress and into the forest. Two weeks later, they take shelter in a mountain cave between Gia and Terra. Sakori gradually recovers from his injuries and resumes training with Rimitorry. Jabari studies 13 newly acquired pages and learns 13 additional spells, which his ring allows him to use without the former physical cost.

Jabari and Rimitorry discuss their future and agree that they will face it together. Sakori joins the conversation as they prepare to search for Reonniz in Terra before Alpha can reach him.

Zafira's test

The following morning, Zafira blocks the group's departure and demands that Rimitorry and Jabari fight her together. Rimitorry attacks first, but Zafira quickly counters her chakrams with the Nebu lance and knocks her to the ground.

Jabari attempts to intervene with multiple forms of Ka'ru, including attacks involving gravity, time, and the mind. Zafira blocks the combined assault and criticizes Jabari for hesitating and overthinking his movements.

Zafira orders both opponents to attack again. Rimitorry and Jabari fight together, but Zafira anticipates their patterns, counters their attacks, and treats the confrontation as a game. After approximately 20 minutes, both challengers are defeated while Zafira remains standing and smiling.

The issue ends after Zafira acknowledges that they lasted longer than expected. When Sakori calls her "little sister," Zafira tells him not to call her that. The closing page directs readers to Tribal: Bloody Beginnings for the full continuation of the story.
