Tribal Comics is an American dark-fantasy comic-book imprint and serialized graphic-storytelling line created by Tony James Nelson II. It serves as the comics branch of the wider Tribal franchise and shares characters, locations, mythology, and continuity with the Tribal Universe. Its publication program includes original visual narratives and comic adaptations of material from Nelson's novel Tribal: Bloody Beginnings.
As of July 2026, the official Roovet Books catalog lists five titles in the series: Dark Justice, Murder Island, Khalembo the Conqueror, Sakori's Fury, and Zafira the Demon.[1][2] The stories combine dark fantasy, horror, supernatural conflict, warrior culture, survival, bloodline mythology, and family drama.
History
Tribal Comics was established in 2023 by Tony James Nelson II as the visual-storytelling division of the growing Tribal franchise. The imprint was created to adapt important events from the prose series while also expanding characters, battles, and historical moments through sequential art.
The first group of issues was made publicly available through Roovet Books in 2026. Dark Justice and Murder Island appeared in March, followed by Khalembo the Conqueror in July and Sakori's Fury later that month.[3][4][5][6]
The fifth issue, Zafira the Demon, was released in July 2026. The issue continues the story three months after the fall of Gia and adapts Chapter 20 of Tribal: Bloody Beginnings.[2]
Publishing focus
The imprint concentrates on graphic storytelling set within the Tribal Universe. Common subjects and genres include:
- dark fantasy and horror;
- action and large-scale warrior battles;
- supernatural abilities and ancient mythology;
- survival, loyalty, betrayal, and bloodline conflict;
- visual adaptations of scenes from Tribal: Bloody Beginnings; and
- original stories that expand the continuity beyond the prose novels.
Several issues adapt specific chapters of Tribal: Bloody Beginnings. Murder Island is based on Chapter 11, Khalembo the Conqueror adapts Chapter 15, Sakori's Fury is based on Chapter 18, and Zafira the Demon adapts Chapter 20.[4][5][6][2] Rather than functioning as isolated retellings, the comics form a connected series that develops the history, rivalries, family relationships, and power structure of the fictional world.
Tribal Universe continuity
Most works released under the Tribal Comics banner take place in the Tribal Universe. Recurring characters and subjects include Jabari, Khalembo the Conqueror, Sakori, Alpha, Rimitorry, Zafira, Deathwave, and the Harpies, along with major locations such as Murder Island, Gia, and Terra.
The comics frequently revisit events introduced in the novels from a more visual and action-focused perspective. Murder Island reveals the nature of the island and the systems designed to transform survivors into weapons, while Khalembo the Conqueror follows Khalembo's return from the island and his confrontation with the people and laws that shaped him.[4][5]
Assault on Gia
The fourth issue, Assault on Gia: Sakori's Fury, depicts a three-sided invasion of Gia. Commander Zuberi leads human NEBU warriors through the eastern flank, Deathwave attacks the western defenses, and the Harpies seize the southern wall. At the center of the conflict, Sakori is forced to defend Gia while confronting Alpha, the father who trained and traumatized him.[6]
The 42-page issue is based on Chapter 18 of Tribal: Bloody Beginnings and emphasizes siege warfare, supernatural combat, family conflict, reunion, sacrifice, and the relationship between Sakori and his younger brother Khalembo.[6]
Zafira the Demon
The fifth issue, Zafira the Demon, is set three months after the fall of Gia. Jabari and Rimitorry return to the conquered fortress to rescue the imprisoned Sakori. During their escape, they discover that 53 Nebu warriors have been killed and deliberately arranged as a message.[2]
The killer is Zafira, Rimitorry's younger sister, Alpha's favored weapon, and the woman known as the Demon. Zafira confronts the group over years of separation and challenges Rimitorry and Jabari to prove what they have become. Her fighting ability allows her to overpower them during a prolonged training battle.
After the confrontation, Zafira agrees to accompany Jabari, Rimitorry, and Sakori as they prepare to travel toward Terra and search for Reonniz. The issue develops Zafira's introduction to the central group while exploring sibling trauma, abandonment, rivalry, supernatural power, lethal loyalty, and the competing meanings of family.[2]
The 25-page comic is based on Chapter 20 of Tribal: Bloody Beginnings and is intended for mature readers.[2]

Formats and distribution
Tribal Comics titles are published by Roovet Comics and distributed through Roovet Books. The catalog offers digital reading and downloadable editions in formats that include PDF, EPUB, CBZ, and comic-optimized PDF, while selected issues also have print editions.[3][4][5][6][2]
Zafira the Demon was prepared in digital, comic-reader, paperback, and hardcover editions. Its ISBN is pending.[2] The Roovet Books series page groups the issues into sequential reading order and connects them to Nelson's other works in the Tribal Universe.[1]
Branding
The imprint uses the Tribal Comics name alongside the wider Tribal Universe brand. Its current logo was introduced in 2026 and is used across comic covers, promotional artwork, and digital publication materials.
The cover of Zafira the Demon identifies the title as Tribal Comics Issue #5 and features Zafira alongside Jabari, Rimitorry, Sakori, and other figures from the Tribal Universe.
